The Lithuanian central bank has issued a warning that domestic crypto asset service providers must obtain a license by December 31, or they will be considered operating illegally and face penalties. The previous transition period for compliance preparation for crypto exchanges and wallet platforms will end by the end of 2025. The central bank stated that starting January 1, any activities such as onboarding new users, receiving crypto assets, or providing services without MiCA authorization will be deemed illegal financial activities, potentially resulting in fines, website bans, or up to 4 years of imprisonment. As of now, only about 30 institutions have submitted license applications, while there are over 370 registered local crypto service providers, with around 120 still actively operating.
