[Alphabet Acquires Data Center Partner Intersect for $4.75 Billion]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, Google’s parent company Alphabet (GOOG.O) has agreed to acquire clean energy developer Intersect Power LLC for $4.75 billion in cash plus the assumption of existing debt. This is one of the company’s largest deals aimed at significantly expanding its data center capacity to support its artificial intelligence business. Currently, the aging U.S. power grid is struggling to meet the first surge in electricity demand in decades, driven by AI development, new factory construction, and economic electrification. This acquisition is intended to secure more power supply for Google’s data centers.
According to previous media reports, Google had already acquired a minority stake in this energy supplier last year by collaborating with Intersect to build large power plants near its data center campuses. Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai stated in a press release: 'Intersect will help us expand capacity, operate more flexibly in building new power facilities to accommodate new data center loads, and reimagine energy solutions to drive innovation and leadership in the U.S.'
