The social housing programme exists to ensure that families who are unable to secure a home on their own still have access to safe, stable, and dignified living conditions. The homes handed over on Friday are fully subsidised because our government understands the value of early and sustained intervention. This decision reflects a clear recognition that when families are supported at critical moments, the benefits extend far beyond the individual household. Those benefits are most clearly seen in our children. A stable home provides structure, security, and consistency. It creates the conditions in which children can focus on learning, grow with confidence, and develop the habits that lead to better outcomes later in life. When parents know their children have a secure place to live, they are better positioned to plan, work, and invest in their family’s future. Social housing represents a shared commitment. It is society making a deliberate investment in people, with the understanding that stronger families lead to stronger communities. It is intended to improve life chances, reinforce dignity, and support long-term social development.(Andrew Holness)
