Trustlessness means that a protocol can operate without developer oversight because it enforces rules automatically through code. However, if a protocol is too complex and only a small number of people can participate in its development, then in practice, others still need to trust this team. Ethereum has already achieved trustlessness, as transactions and smart contracts are enforced by open-source code and a decentralized network of validators. However, the network still needs to improve user understanding, which might be addressed by simplifying the protocol.
