[Report: Central African Republic's Cryptocurrency Initiatives Intensify Elite Monopoly and External Crime Risks]
Odaily Planet Daily News – The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) has released a report stating that the Central African Republic (CAR)'s push for cryptocurrency initiatives has not promoted financial inclusion but instead benefited a small group of elites and exposed the country to the influence of foreign criminal networks. The report highlights that, under conditions of severe shortages in electricity, internet access, and regulatory frameworks, CAR's cryptocurrency projects—from Bitcoin legalization and Sango Coin to the national meme coin—primarily serve the interests of foreign investors and a few insiders. The report also criticizes the 2023 legislation allowing the tokenization of oil, gold, timber, and land, which may undermine national sovereignty. (Cointelegraph)
