This is just like we talked about before—after Powell steps down, whether the new Fed Chair is Walsh or Hassett, they’ll most likely end up following Trump’s instructions. I think Trump will definitely avoid the issues he had with appointing and dismissing Powell before.
In this interview, Trump’s goal is to lower U.S. interest rates to 1%. Right now, it’s at 3.75%. If it really drops to 1%, it would definitely stimulate the risk markets, but it would be very unfavorable for U.S. inflation.
If Trump maintains the economy by overdrawing on 'inflation,' the next crisis could be even bigger. But what we might get in return is the stock market continuing to rise over the next couple of years.
