The Pinnacle represents our country’s entry into a new segment of the tourism market and we welcome that. Diversifying our product is important for our long-term growth. But as Prime Minister, especially in a time of national recovery, I must acknowledge the sensitivity of moments like this. We cannot celebrate luxury while thousands of Jamaicans are still without roofs. So even as I stand here recognizing this achievement, I want every family still struggling with damage to know that you are not forgotten. Every hour of my day is spent working to ensure you get those roofs back, quickly, effectively, affordably, and sustainably. This development, as distant as it may seem from the immediate challenges, is also part of the broader effort to strengthen Jamaica’s economy. Pursuing projects like this does not in any way take away from the urgent work of helping those who are still displaced. There will always be attempts to divide the country into those who have and those who do not. But my responsibility is to bring Jamaica together so that we can all have, and so that progress is shared. It is not an easy task, but it is the only path for us to move forward as one people.(Andrew Holness)
