[The UK Financial Authorities Plan to Prioritize Stablecoin Payments by 2026 and Advance the Issuance of a Pound Stablecoin]
Foresight News reports that Nikhil Rathi, CEO of the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), outlined the regulator's digital innovation strategy for the coming year in a letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The FCA's 2026 goals include finalizing digital asset regulatory frameworks and advancing the issuance of a pound-denominated stablecoin in the UK. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is currently working with the Bank of England to develop a comprehensive regulatory framework covering stablecoins, trading platforms, lending, staking, and custody, which is expected to be implemented by 2026. The UK has adopted a phased approach to cryptocurrency regulation, aiming to balance innovation with consumer protection. Recently, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) launched a regulatory sandbox for local stablecoin issuers wishing to test their stablecoin solutions. The application deadline for the sandbox is January 18.
