[Hardline Republicans Dissatisfied with Defense Bill Passed Without Prohibition on Central Bank Digital Currency]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that the U.S. House of Representatives passed a defense spending bill on Wednesday, but the bill failed to include a prohibition on central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), despite previous promises to incorporate such measures. A group of Republicans expressed strong dissatisfaction over this. "Conservatives were explicitly promised that the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) would include strong anti-CBDC provisions. This promise has been broken." Representative Self submitted an amendment on Tuesday, seeking to reintroduce a CBDC ban that had previously been removed from the bill. However, the amendment failed to pass and was not brought to a vote in the House. Self stated that a group of Republicans "were told the bill would include provisions opposing CBDCs. Yet, we were forced to accept a take-it-or-leave-it bill that violated prior commitments. Without these provisions, I am inclined to reject this bill." (Cointelegraph)
