[The Federal Reserve Cuts Interest Rates by 25 Basis Points as Expected, Dot Plot Indicates Only One Rate Cut Next Year, Future Decisions May Depend on Labor Market Data]
BlockBeats News, December 11, the Federal Reserve announced at 3 a.m. Beijing time today a 25 basis point rate cut, lowering the benchmark interest rate to 3.50%-3.75%. This marks the third consecutive meeting with a rate cut, in line with market expectations, bringing the total rate cuts this year to 75 basis points.
The Federal Reserve's dot plot forecast indicates one 25 basis point rate cut in both 2026 and 2027.
Nick Timiraos, known as the "Fed Whisperer," wrote in his latest article that Federal Reserve officials have cut rates for the third consecutive meeting, but inflation and the labor market remain bigger concerns. There is an unusual division within the Fed, with officials signaling a low willingness to continue cutting rates.
Additionally, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell stated in his speech that the labor market appears to be gradually cooling, while inflation levels remain slightly elevated. Inflation risks are skewed to the upside. September labor market data showed a slight increase in the unemployment rate and a significant slowdown in job growth. Labor demand has clearly weakened, showing signs of reduced vitality and slight softness.
Goldman Sachs analyst Kay Haigh commented that the Federal Reserve has reached the end of "preventive rate cuts." She stated: "The next step depends on labor market data weakening further to justify additional near-term easing policies."
After Powell's speech, Bitcoin briefly surged past $94,000 before retreating continuously. As of the time of writing, it is quoted at $91,918.
