[Market Analysis: The Federal Reserve May Consider Restarting Reserve Management Bond Purchases]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, some analysts believe that, in addition to guiding interest rates downward, the Federal Reserve may decide at today's meeting to begin expanding its holdings of U.S. Treasury securities. However, this move differs from the quantitative easing measures during the financial crisis or the COVID-19 pandemic—it is not aimed at stimulating the economy but rather ensuring that the scale of bank reserves remains stable or moderately expands in line with economic growth. (If the size of the Federal Reserve's balance sheet remains unchanged, bank reserves within the system will gradually decrease as public demand for cash continues to rise.) New York Fed President Williams recently stated in a speech that the Federal Reserve may soon reach a stage where such operations would be appropriate. However, it should be noted that announcing the restart of such bond purchases at today's meeting is not a certainty.
