A woman in the U.S. falls victim to a crypto 'pig-butchering' romance scam, losing nearly $1 million According to Decrypt, a woman from San Jose, California, lost nearly $1 million in a crypto 'pig-butchering' scam and only realized it was a fraud after consulting ChatGPT. The victim, Margaret Loke, met a man claiming to be 'Ed' on Facebook this May. 'Ed' presented himself as a wealthy businessman and gradually built an emotional connection with her. He then guided her into investing in cryptocurrency. Loke transferred over $490,000 from her retirement account and took out a second mortgage on her home to transfer an additional $300,000. When the so-called crypto account was suddenly 'frozen' and 'Ed' demanded an extra $1 million to unfreeze it, Loke described the situation to ChatGPT. ChatGPT responded that the setup matched known scam patterns and advised her to contact the police. Investigations revealed that the funds were transferred to a Malaysian bank account and then withdrawn by the scammers. https://www.(techflowpost.com)/newsletter/detail_107884.html
