The group stole approximately 4,100 BTC through social engineering fraud between October 2023 and May 2025. Tangeman admitted to participating in a RICO conspiracy and laundering over $3.5 million for the group, making him the ninth defendant to plead guilty in the case. According to the Department of Justice, the group consisted of hackers, organizers, target identifiers, fake customer service callers, and burglars based in California, Connecticut, New York, Florida, and overseas. They used stolen databases to identify victims and tricked them into transferring assets through cold calls. The stolen crypto assets were used to purchase luxury goods, high-end cars, nightclub services, rental properties, and private flights. Tangeman assisted group members in converting stolen crypto assets into cash through cash exchange services and used fake identities to rent properties to conceal their true identities. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 24, 2026. The court has also unsealed a second superseding indictment, adding three new defendants. (The Block)
