[India's Ministry of Finance states that the Enforcement Directorate has seized approximately ₹41.9 billion in assets in crypto-related cases, with one suspect identified as an economic fugitive] Odaily Planet Daily News: In a written response to Parliament, India's Ministry of Finance stated that the Enforcement Directorate (ED), under anti-money laundering laws, has seized, frozen, or confiscated assets totaling approximately ₹41.8989 billion in multiple crypto-related cases. Additionally, 29 individuals have been arrested, and 22 chargesheets have been filed, with one suspect officially identified as an 'economic fugitive.' Meanwhile, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), during search and seizure operations targeting Virtual Digital Assets (VDA), uncovered approximately ₹8.8882 billion in unreported income and issued notices to 44,057 taxpayers who failed to disclose VDA information in their income tax returns. The Ministry of Finance stated that crypto assets remain unregulated in India, and the government is advancing capacity-building efforts to strengthen monitoring and investigation of VDA transactions. It emphasized that crypto assets have cross-border characteristics, and any effective regulatory framework requires extensive international collaboration in areas such as risk assessment and classification standards.
