**[ZKsync Announces Plans to Cease Maintenance of ZKsync Lite Original Version Next Year]**
Odaily Planet Daily News: The ZKsync team has announced its plan to discontinue its earliest zero-knowledge scaling network, ZKsync Lite, next year. According to the official statement, this shutdown is part of a "planned and gradual phase-out" and will not affect other ZKsync systems. A detailed timeline and migration guidelines will be released later.
ZKsync Lite (formerly known as ZKsync 1.0) was launched in June 2020, primarily targeting Ethereum payment scenarios, supporting token transfers, atomic swaps, and NFT minting, but lacking smart contract functionality. The team stated that it has "fulfilled its mission" as an early zero-knowledge technology validation platform, laying a critical foundation for subsequent ZK systems.
According to L2BEAT data, approximately $50 million in assets currently remain on ZKsync Lite, with the network processing fewer than 200 transactions daily. The team emphasized that asset security will not be affected, and withdrawals to the Ethereum mainnet will continue to function normally during this period.
Matter Labs, the parent company of ZKsync, shifted its development focus to ZKsync Era in March 2023. ZKsync Era is a complete zkEVM compatible with smart contract development. At the time, The Block referred to it as "the holy grail of Ethereum scaling."
The team clarified that this shutdown does not involve other products such as ZK Stack or Prividiums. Recently, ZKsync ended its Ignite liquidity incentive program due to market downturns, and the Aave DAO is also considering deprecating its deployment on ZKsync Era. (The Block)
