Even though Bitcoin's price over the weekend wasn’t great and still hasn’t climbed back above $90,000, the sentiment over the past couple of days has been okay. At least it didn’t crash during the lowest liquidity period. Right now, investors are most concerned about the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy on December 11. A rate cut in December seems highly likely, and not even Powell can stop it. However, the dot plot and Powell’s speech are still nerve-wracking.
This reminds me of the end of 2024, around Christmas. Back then, the market sentiment should’ve been good with the December rate cut, plus Trump winning the election. I was ready to celebrate, but Powell’s speech dragged the market into a slump. The main issue was the expectations for rate cuts in 2025. Initially, the expectation was for two rate cuts, but 2025 ended up with four rate cuts throughout the year.
I don’t know what Powell will say next, but I believe once the new Fed chair takes over, even if we don’t enter a rapid rate-cut cycle, it’s highly likely we’ll align with Trump’s vision and enter a true rate-cut path. Still, the December FOMC meeting and dot plot will remain a headache.
Looking back at Bitcoin’s data, the turnover rate has finally dropped. While this is partly due to the weekend, the decline in turnover rate has helped ease the market’s anxiety. Honestly, the market isn’t much different from last week. There’s no bearish data, and the expectation remains that the Fed will cut rates in December. However, the market’s downturn is mainly due to two reasons: first, the expectations for various data aren’t looking great, and the economy might decline.
Second, there’s not much optimism about further rate cuts in January. But as I mentioned earlier, in 2024, the expectation was only for two rate cuts, yet there ended up being four. The current dot plot doesn’t represent future trends. Faced with an unpromising economy, the Fed has to choose between controlling inflation or supporting the economy. If it’s the former, it’ll likely lead to a recession. If it’s the latter, there’s still hope for 2026.
