Looking at the comments, some people are saying this must be Binance doing it on purpose. If they really wanted to catch insider trading, how could they not control it? Well, you're underestimating both human greed and the difficulty of managing it.
Fighting insider trading is something all CEXs have been doing for a long time. The only difference is how much effort they put into it. In this regard, Binance actually has a decent reputation, and OKX has also been pretty serious about anti-corruption.
A few days ago, Lao Xu happened to tell me about an internal anti-corruption case at OKX:
There was an account that made an unusual purchase of a certain token right before an OKX announcement. What made this account suspicious was that it rarely engaged in any speculative trades, but suddenly bought in before the good news and sold right after it was announced. The profit wasn’t even that much—just 10%, around $2,000.
But no matter how OKX analyzed it internally, they couldn’t figure out how the information got leaked. So, they just flagged the account for monitoring and left it alone. Six months later, the account accidentally exposed its connection to another account during an internal transfer. Turns out, it was the wife of a senior employee .
Lao Xu couldn’t believe that such a senior, well-paid employee would engage in insider trading, and for just $2,000 . This is the weakness of human nature. In the end, they had no choice but to deal with the employee.
As CEXs grow larger, the number of people with access to critical information will also increase, making management even harder.
For us, we just need to keep an eye out. If you find solid evidence, report it ASAP. At least that way, we’re helping to clean up the space.
