5 hours ago, someone had $27M worth of crypto assets stolen by a hacker. So tragic
I recommend everyone turn off Chrome's auto-download feature ASAP and avoid using phones with your main wallet to click on any suspicious links in TG.
I checked the two main wallets he shared that were hacked, and indeed, about $20M worth of assets were transferred out in bulk 5 hours ago.
Right now, he's offering the hacker $5M as a reward in his TG channel, but he feels the chances are slim.
Here's what the victim shared about what happened:
'Someone tried to extort me, but I didn’t take it seriously. However, I was quite interested in their OSINT skills.
So, I chatted with them for a bit. I’ve had my accounts hacked before, so I paid them a little to do some due diligence (DD) for me.
At first, they sent me the DD results via some links, but I asked them to send it as text instead. Later, they sent me a link that led to a fake Etherscan website, which automatically downloaded and executed files (so even TG’s "disable auto-download" feature couldn’t prevent it).
Like an idiot, I immediately "checked" those clicks on my phone, which happened to have the second signer for my multi-sig wallet.
Then, they used the same method to get my Telegram metadata as well.'
Check out the attached image for how to change Chrome settings. Apple systems are also vulnerable, so fix it ASAP.
