[Bitcoin Policy Institute Calls on Trump to Pardon Samourai Developers, Over 3,200 Signatures Collected] The Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI) has called on U.S. President Trump to pardon Samourai Wallet developers Keonne Rodriguez and William Lonergan Hill, who have been sentenced to five and four years in prison, respectively, for conspiring to operate an unlicensed money transmission business. They are required to report to prison in early January 2026. Under a plea agreement, money laundering charges have been dropped. Prominent figures in the Bitcoin community, including Max Keiser, Marty Bent, and Walker America, have publicly supported the pardon. Zack Shapiro of BPI stated that federal money transmission laws should not apply to non-custodial software. As of the time of writing, the petition has garnered over 3,200 signatures.
