[Vitalik: Ethereum Will Continue to Implement Multiple 'Hard Rules' to Enhance Security and Protocol Efficiency]
Foresight News reports that Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin tweeted that in recent years, Ethereum has effectively improved protocol security and long-term adaptability by continuously introducing multiple 'hard rules.'
2021: EIP-2929 and EIP-3529, which increased storage read costs and reduced gas refunds;
2024: With the Dencun upgrade, the contract self-destruct instruction will be weakened;
2025: A gas fee cap of 16,777,216 per transaction will be set.
These changes establish clear upper limits for the maximum processing capacity of a single block and a single transaction, helping to prevent various types of denial-of-service attacks, simplify client implementation, and provide more room for improving system efficiency. Moving forward, more hard restrictions are expected to be introduced, including:
- Limiting the total byte size of accessible code (short-term increasing the cost of calling large contracts, mid-term adopting a binary tree structure and block-based pricing);
- Setting a maximum computation cycle for zero-knowledge EVM verifiers and synchronizing cost adjustments;
- Adjusting memory pricing methods and setting a clearer upper limit for EVM maximum memory consumption.
