[European Banking Alliance Establishes Stablecoin Issuance Institution Qivalis, Set to Launch Euro Stablecoin in the Second Half of 2026] BlockBeats News, December 3: Nine major European banks have jointly established the stablecoin issuance institution Qivalis, which has been registered in Amsterdam. The institution plans to launch a euro stablecoin governed by the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). The banks participating in this euro-denominated stablecoin project include ING (Netherlands), Banca Sella (Italy), KBC (Belgium), Danske Bank (Denmark), DekaBank (Germany), UniCredit (Italy), SEB (Sweden), CaixaBank (Spain), and Raiffeisen Bank International (Austria). The participating banks stated that this initiative will provide a truly European alternative to the U.S.-dominated stablecoin market and help enhance Europe's strategic autonomy in the payments sector. According to a joint statement, the stablecoin will enable near-instant, low-cost transactions and offer 24/7 efficient cross-border payments, programmable payments, improved supply chain management, and optimized digital asset settlement. The MiCA-compliant stablecoin is expected to be issued for the first time in the second half of 2026.
