Tom Lee really knows how to find a perspective. Tom Lee believes that Ethereum's L2 networks are not parasitic to L1 but instead enhance L1's value by increasing demand for ETH (like staking and transaction fees). Tom Lee compares Ethereum to the US dollar system, pointing out that while stock trading is denominated in dollars, it doesn’t directly pay into the monetary system. Similarly, activities on L2 don’t directly contribute to L1 fees, but because Ethereum serves as the monetary base, these activities still support ETH’s value. In one sentence, Tom Lee thinks L2 isn’t ‘sucking the blood’ of L1 but is actually helping L1 appreciate in value because L2 makes ETH more valuable. That said, it would be better for the ecosystem’s positive cycle if L2 paid a certain proportion of revenue to L1 as a security fee. The increase in ETH’s value also benefits L2 by providing greater security.
