Yesterday, a buddy in our group who works in AI was ranting, saying he spent half a year labeling data for a big company, didn’t even get credited, and then got laid off. While I was comforting him, I couldn’t help but think about the past two weeks I’ve been diving into @OpenledgerHQ — same data feeding, but at least here it’s clear who contributed and who gets paid. He even joked, ‘Turns out we’re the ones being mined,’ and that line totally broke the devs. OpenLedger’s mainnet just launched in November, and in the first phase, they rolled out Datanet’s data contribution system and leaderboard. It lets people throw their industry knowledge and labeling experience onto the chain, and if the model actually uses it, you automatically earn OPEN tokens—no more being exploited for free labor. Over the past few days, they’ve also been running the OpenThanks campaign, pulling together a bunch of builders to share their stories. On one hand, they’re collaborating with platforms like PublicAI, which focus on human-reviewed data sources; on the other, the foundation is using real revenue to buy back 5 million OPEN tokens. Add to that the OPEN Agent feature, which can turn a simple request like ‘Help me find XX sector projects and build a portfolio’ into a complete on-chain operation. The narrative around this chain is shifting from ‘AI concept’ to ‘AI settlement layer.’ The devs’ take is: the real alpha here isn’t about who pumps the price short-term, but who feeds niche scenario data into the system first and secures a top spot on the Datanet leaderboard. If you’re already creating vertical content or doing industry research, it’s definitely worth checking out Studio and the Leaderboard—at the very least, don’t let your data go to waste for nothing.
