[Russian Advisor Proposes Amnesty for Illegal Mining Equipment Holders, About 60% of Mining Companies Still Unregistered]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that Oleg Ogienko, advisor to the Russian State Duma's cryptocurrency legislative regulatory working group and CEO of Via Numeri, has proposed that the government implement an amnesty for cryptocurrency miners using illegally imported mining equipment. This measure aims to legalize their operations and bring them under regulatory oversight. Starting in 2024, Russia will recognize crypto mining as a legitimate commercial activity, requiring miners consuming more than 6,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month to register with the Federal Tax Service (FNS) and pay taxes. However, approximately 60% of mining companies have yet to complete their registration. Ogienko pointed out that the lack of an amnesty mechanism for illegally imported equipment is the main reason miners have not registered. Currently, only about 150 mining infrastructure operators and 1,300 related entities are registered. (Cryptopolitan)
