While addressing the people of Kanungu at Rwere Playground, I announced that the government will establish a special fund to help tea farmers access affordable fertilisers. The growers told me that the costs have become too high, especially for large estates, and we shall support them through their SACCOs just as we are planning for sugarcane growers and fishermen. Tea is the backbone of Kanungu, and for those with smaller land, the four-acre model remains the sure path out of poverty.
I reminded the people of Kanungu that peace is the first of the seven contributions of the NRM. Those who live near the Congo border know its value more than most. Uganda has secured its peace without depending on outside forces because we prioritise what matters in defence. With this peace, we have transformed our road network and we shall upgrade more, including the 149 km Hamurwa to Kerere to Kanungu to Butogota to Hamayanza to Ifasha to Ikunza stretch. We are going to work on that road.(Yoweri K Museveni)
