Miden @ 0xMiden founder @ bobbinth recently shared some of his inspiration sources for designing Miden. The sources are not completely out of thin air, but refer to some of his favorite L1. It is a fusion innovation that combines the best parts of his favorite L1 to create Miden, which is a L2 platform that solves privacy needs and supports privacy smart contracts.
The main reference for learning is:
-Bitcoin: Miden notes with programmable scripts are modeled directly after Bitcoin's UTXO. Even borrowed some naming conventions (for example, Bitcoin has scripts such as P2SH and P2PKH, while Miden has scripts such as P2ID and P2IDE).
-Ethereum: Miden also has an account that is very similar to Ethereum smart contracts - that is, the account has code, storage space, random numbers, and storage assets.
-Zcash: In order to make cryptocurrency consumption untraceable, Miden used the concept of invalid symbols, which was largely inspired by the design of Zcash (although the way invalid symbols are defined and stored in Miden is slightly different).
-Sui: Median's asset model is inspired by Sui's object model, and with some changes we are currently making, the two will become more similar.
-NEAR/Solana: The inspiration for using Rust as a smart contract programming language comes from NEAR, followed by Solana.
Unlike brevis @ brevis_zk, brevis focuses on on on chain/off chain data privacy and verifiable computing layers. Miden is doing Privacy L2, which enables developers to implement the infrastructure of privacy smart contracts without needing to understand zk algorithms.
