The reform of the African Union is an urgent and necessary step to ensure it advances the African voice and agenda effectively. Without meaningful change, the AU risks becoming ineffective, which would cost us far more in lost opportunity and diminished influence. Chaired the African Union Institutional Reform Ad Hoc Committee Meeting of Heads of State in Luanda, Angola. The report addresses eight priority areas: Revitalisation of the peace and security architecture; financing; operationalisation of the African Court of Justice; and streamlining the AU agenda format. Others are revamping the Pan-African Parliament; categorisation of decisions; division of labour; as well as restructuring of the remaining AU Organs, Institutions and Offices. These reforms are achievable. Let us therefore join forces to turn this dream into reality. To make the reform process inclusive, a summit of Heads of State will be held where they will contribute their perspectives and shape a stronger and more responsive Union.(William Samoei Ruto, PhD)
