It’s important for Europe to maintain good relations with African countries and with the African Union. This applies not only to our cooperation in areas such as trade and the energy transition, but also to fighting organised crime and tackling irregular migration.   That is why I am in Angola today for the summit between the African Union and the European Union, where I met with Angolan President João Lourenço.   We discussed relations between our countries and opportunities for further cooperation, such as the Lobito Corridor, a strategic rail link in Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zambia. This project is being co-financed by the Dutch government and the EU, in close cooperation with the Angolan government.   This railway line will enable the transportation of raw materials from the African interior that are needed for the energy transition. Together with the Angolan government, the Netherlands has developed a logistics platform that will enable Dutch companies to contribute their expertise to the development of agriculture on fertile land along the corridor. In short: a win-win situation for Europe, Dutch companies and Angola.(Dick Schoof)
