[Capital Economics: Fed's December Vote May See First-Ever 6:6 Tie] BlockBeats News, November 24, analysts at research institution Capital Economics stated that the typically consensus-driven Federal Reserve has recently shown increasingly severe divisions, to the extent that next month's rate-setting meeting 'may result in a deadlock.' In a report last Friday, Capital Economics economists attempted to calculate the voting situation. Four regional Fed presidents on the committee—Collins, Goolsbee, Mester, and Schmid—have expressed skepticism or even outright opposition to the proposal for a rate cut next month. Fed Governors Barr and Jefferson have also signaled caution. Meanwhile, in the dovish camp, three Fed Governors appointed by Trump—Bowman, Miller, and Waller—have been consistently advocating for rate cuts, and Williams' statement last Friday suggests he might join their ranks. Capital Economics stated: 'By this calculation, there are still only four votes in favor of a rate cut, with six votes against. However, given that Williams and Fed Chair Powell often share the same views (and Governor Lisa Cook typically aligns her voting stance with Powell), a 6:6 tie could occur.' Robert Eisenbeis, who previously served as research director at the Atlanta Fed, told *Fortune* magazine earlier this year that in the event of a tie, the federal funds rate would remain unchanged.
