[Bessent: U.S. Economy Hit by $11 Billion Shutdown Impact, But No Overall Recession Risk]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated on Sunday that the 43-day government shutdown caused a permanent loss of $11 billion to the U.S. economy. However, he remains optimistic about next year's economic growth prospects, citing the decline in interest rates and the boost from tax cuts.
Bessent noted during the program that interest rate-sensitive sectors of the U.S. economy have already fallen into recession, but he believes there is no risk of the overall economy slipping into negative growth. He attributed inflation to the service-oriented economy rather than the widespread tariffs implemented by U.S. President Donald Trump—a view consistent with the long-standing stance of the Trump administration.
He added that the expected decline in energy prices will broadly help bring down overall prices.
