Just saw the original announcement from global stock index company MSCI about their plan to remove certain micro-strategy companies from their stock indices. In simple terms, there’s been too much opposition. Many believe these U.S.-listed companies hoarding BTC and ETH are more like investment funds rather than properly operating companies. So, mainstream stock index companies are considering kicking out all companies where hoarding cryptocurrencies accounts for over 50% of their operations from the indices. The consultation period will continue until the end of December, and the stock index committee will announce the results by January 15. If MSCI proceeds with this move, it’s estimated that $2.8 billion in related funds will flow out of these companies, which could also trigger other stock index issuers to follow suit. After all, not long ago, the S&P index issuer didn’t include Bitcoin micro-strategy MSTR in the S&P 500 index, even though it met the requirements.
