A rapid post-disaster damage assessment conducted by the World Bank, in collaboration with the IDB and ECLAC, estimates that physical damage from Hurricane Melissa amount to US8.8 billion, or 41% of Jamaica’s 2024 GDP. This assessment, based on satellite imagery, catastrophe modelling, and remote sensing, focuses only on direct physical damages, not economic losses.(Andrew Holness)
