[U.S. Man Admits Involvement in Crypto Theft Case Involving $263 Million] BlockBeats reports that on November 19, according to Decrypt, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that a 45-year-old California man, Kunal Mehta, who went by the alias 'Shrek,' has pleaded guilty to violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) and laundering at least $25 million in cryptocurrency. Mehta is the eighth member of the group to plead guilty. He provided services such as converting cryptocurrency to cash and holding luxury cars for laundering purposes. He also delivered approximately $500,000 in cash to accomplices. Since 2023, the group has stolen a total of $263 million in cryptocurrency assets through social engineering and hacking methods. The stolen funds were used to purchase nightclub services, luxury goods, and real estate. Prosecutors have listed 28 vehicles for forfeiture, including 7 Lamborghinis, 3 Ferraris, 1 Rolls-Royce, and 1 McLaren. A total of 13 individuals have been charged in the case, with some members being as young as 18 at the time of the crimes.
