**[U.S. Man Pleads Guilty in $263 Million Cryptocurrency Theft Case]**
The U.S. Department of Justice announced that 45-year-old California resident Kunal Mehta (nicknamed "Shrek") has admitted to participating in a cryptocurrency theft case involving up to $263 million. Mehta pleaded guilty to violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) and aiding in laundering at least $25 million.
Mehta is the eighth member of a 13-person cybercrime group to plead guilty. Since October 2023, the group has stolen cryptocurrency through social engineering and hacking methods. Prosecutors stated that Mehta was responsible for providing cryptocurrency-to-cash laundering services within the group and once delivered a suitcase containing approximately $500,000 in cash to accomplices. The stolen funds were used to purchase nightclub expenses, luxury cars, high-end goods, and rental properties.
Seized assets in the case include 28 luxury cars, among them 7 Lamborghinis, 3 Ferraris, 1 Rolls-Royce, and 1 McLaren.
