[Senate Committee Strives to Finalize Market Structure Legislation Draft Before December Review]
According to Crypto In America, as reported by Golden Finance, U.S. Senate staff are racing against time to complete the market structure legislation draft before Thanksgiving. Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman John Boozman (Republican, Arkansas) stated his commitment to this timeline, noting that the government shutdown had delayed his original plan to review the bill this week.
House Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott (Republican, South Carolina) had initially planned to complete the review of the banking bill by the end of September, but he has yet to indicate when the portion of the draft under his committee's jurisdiction will be submitted for a vote. Since the text of the draft became a bipartisan effort following last month's congressional bipartisan roundtable discussions, it has not been publicly released, and it remains unclear whether it will be published before the Thanksgiving holiday.
The draft leaves several critical gaps, including how to regulate decentralized finance (DeFi), and some wording in parentheses has yet to gain approval from lawmakers. If the committees can complete their respective reviews next month, the two draft texts will be merged into a single piece of legislation and submitted for a full Senate vote.
However, with the holidays and year-end approaching, many expect the voting process and the final passage of the market structure bill to be postponed to next year's session, with the focus in the latter half of next year likely shifting to the midterm elections.
