**[Adam Back: Bitcoin Will Not Face Quantum Risks in the Next 20-40 Years]**
According to Cointelegraph, Blockstream CEO and early Bitcoin advocate Adam Back stated that Bitcoin is unlikely to face substantial threats from quantum computing for at least the next 20 to 40 years. Responding to an inquiry from a user on X about whether Bitcoin is at risk, Back expressed this view and noted that the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has already approved post-quantum cryptography standards. Bitcoin can adopt these standards "well before quantum computers capable of breaking cryptography come into existence."
This discussion began after a user shared a video of Chamath Palihapitiya, a Canadian-American venture capitalist and entrepreneur, predicting that Bitcoin could face quantum threats within two to five years. He pointed out that to break the SHA-256 encryption standard that Bitcoin relies on, quantum computers would need approximately 8,000 qubits.
