What impressed me the most in the CCA auction event launched by Aztec and Uniswap was actually ZKPassport's KYC experience. This process is very unique and worth discussing. In most new user activities or registration with financial institutions (exchanges, banks), users usually need to take a photo of their passport information page and submit complete personal information. Leaving aside the issue of privacy leaks, when it comes to experience, taking a passport photo is already frustrating enough: reflections, anti-counterfeiting textures, and angle calibration are all obstacles. The first step in improving ZKPassport is to eliminate the need for passport photos. Instead, it reads data directly from the NFC chip in the passport. At present, this condition is surprisingly easy to meet. On the one hand, in the past two decades, countries have gradually switched to e-passports, which are passports that comply with the ICAO Doc 9303 standard and have built-in NFC chips. It contains basic information of the holder and standardized facial data. Most passports issued in the past decade belong to this category. On the other hand, almost all modern smartphones have NFC, which can directly read data from electronic passports. Even the once closed iPhone has opened up NFC capability to read e-passports in recent years. Both of these conditions are indispensable, otherwise the ZKPassport experience will definitely degrade and I cannot test it temporarily. ) After scanning the passport, it will also turn on the front camera for liveness detection and facial comparison to confirm that the operator is indeed the passport holder. This is crucial because the data of the electronic passport itself has been signed by the government, which can verify its authenticity, but it cannot confirm who the person in front of the phone is. This requires the camera to add this link. After completing these tasks, it is ZKP's turn to generate zero knowledge proofs required by the business based on passport data, such as: -Your passport is not issued by a sanctioned country -You are over 18 years old -You meet specific regional or identity requirements Finally, the business party only needs to verify the zero knowledge proof without accessing your original passport information, in order to enable you to pass KYC and participate in the activity. The entire experience is much smoother than the traditional "photo upload" mode, and it also eliminates most unnecessary privacy exposures.
