JPS President and CEO, Hugh Grant, announced that 64% of customers (over 300,000) now have electricity restored, with major progress in Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine, and St. Thomas, where over 95% of customers are back on the grid.
Restoration has also advanced in Clarendon, Manchester, Portland, St. Mary, and St. Ann, including critical facilities like St. Ann’s Bay Hospital, Ocho Rios Pier, and the parish infirmary.
Mr. Grant confirmed that power has been restored to Sangster International Airport, the Cornwall Regional Hospital, Fairview Shopping Centre, Freeport BPO Zone, and the Hip Strip in Montego Bay. He assured that Hanover and Westmoreland will have power within two weeks, and Trelawny, including Falmouth Town, Hospital, and Pier, will be restored this week.
JPS has deployed over 200 additional overseas line workers and imported new bucket and pole-digging trucks to accelerate recovery.(Andrew Holness)
