The U.S. federal appeals court rejected a man's request to recover $354 million worth of Bitcoin, stating that his claim was filed too late and his statements were inconsistent. The man alleged that his hard drive was destroyed by law enforcement when he was arrested in 2019, later claiming it contained the private keys for 3,443 BTC. The court pointed out that he had repeatedly denied owning crypto assets earlier, leading to the lawful destruction of the device, and now he cannot receive compensation. According to River Financial data, between 2.3 million and 4 million Bitcoins (approximately 11%-18% of the total supply) have been permanently lost.
