[SlowMist Cosine: The fundamental cause of Balancer's theft exceeding $100 million is the scaling factor calculation error in the implementation of Balancer v2's Composable Stable Pool, which can be exploited for profit through low-liquidity swaps]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, SlowMist Cosine released an analysis of the Balancer hack exceeding $100 million. The report pointed out that the root cause lies in the implementation of Balancer v2's Composable Stable Pool (based on Curve StableSwap's Stable Math), where the integer fixed-point calculation of scaling factors (scalingFactors) has a precision loss issue. This results in minor but compounding price discrepancies/errors during token swaps. Attackers leveraged low-liquidity small swaps to amplify these errors, leading to significant cumulative profits.
