[OpenAI Reportedly Discussed Merger with Anthropic After Altman's Dismissal]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, newly released court documents reveal that shortly after Sam Altman briefly stepped down as CEO of OpenAI two years ago, the company explored the possibility of merging with AI competitor Anthropic. OpenAI co-founder and former chief scientist Ilya Sutskever detailed the negotiations in a recent testimony, stating that the company discussed Anthropic's merger proposal in November 2023. Sutskever said the proposal would have allowed Anthropic to take over leadership of OpenAI, and he was almost the only board member opposing the deal. However, due to some "practical obstacles," the merger discussions ultimately fell through. (Jin10)
