[Senator Warren Refutes Defamation Allegations from Changpeng Zhao Through Her Lawyer, Claiming Her Statements Are 'Completely Accurate']
According to Foresight News, citing The Block, Ben Stafford, the lawyer for Democratic leader of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee Elizabeth Warren, refuted defamation allegations made by Changpeng Zhao in a letter addressed to Zhao's lawyer, Teresa Goody Guillén. The letter stated that Warren's post on the X platform claiming that Changpeng Zhao 'pleaded guilty to money laundering charges' is 'completely accurate,' made without malice, and that Zhao, as a public figure, cannot prove that Warren made false statements with actual malice.
The letter pointed out that Changpeng Zhao did indeed plead guilty to violating the Bank Secrecy Act, which enforcement agencies describe as 'the first and most comprehensive anti-money laundering regulation in the United States.' The statement did not allege that Zhao pleaded guilty to other money laundering crimes, nor did it involve regulatory fines. Last week, Zhao's lawyer warned that if Warren did not retract her statements, a defamation lawsuit would be filed immediately, accusing her of 'abusing her authority to damage Zhao's reputation.'
