Bored and scrolling, I came across a tweet from a friend who’s into startups. He said he’s been working on something about 'making data move on its own.' I stared at the screen for two seconds: wait, data can move on its own?
Turns out he was talking about @irys_xyz.
Think about it—our old data systems were all about 'store it → retrieve it → process it with another program,' like throwing files into a black hole and needing someone else to fish them out for you.
But on Irys, data isn’t dead.
It’s like hiring a smart assistant—it can set permissions, handle billing, distribute itself, and even execute logic automatically.
Here’s an example:
Before, if you wanted to sell a dataset on-chain, you’d have to write a smart contract, configure storage, and call external APIs.
Now, with Irys, you can directly write rules into the data file itself, like:
'Who can access it,' 'how much it costs per access,' and 'what actions to trigger after access.'
The data can judge, execute, and settle payments all on its own—the entire logic is completed at the storage layer.
How does it work underneath?
Irys uses a 'dual-ledger system':
One ledger is called the Submit Ledger—it handles fast verification and sorting;
The other is the Publish Ledger—it’s responsible for permanent storage and traceability.
One is fast, the other is stable. Together, they make data both responsive in real-time and securely complete.
It’s EVM-compatible, which means developers don’t need to learn a bunch of new stuff—they can use existing Ethereum tools to write logic directly into the data.
My friend later laughed and said:
