[New York Court Approves Multichain Liquidator's Request to Extend Freeze on Stolen USDC Addresses] Odaily Planet Daily reports that the New York court has approved a temporary relief request filed by the Singapore liquidator on behalf of the Multichain Foundation, instructing Circle to continue freezing three wallet addresses involved in a hacking incident until further notice. This measure will prevent the transfer of USDC from the aforementioned wallets. According to court documents, Circle implemented the freeze by blacklisting the relevant addresses through the USDC smart contract mechanism. In July 2023, Multichain suffered a $210 million cross-chain bridge attack, which included approximately $63 million in stolen USDC. Earlier this year, Multichain entered liquidation proceedings in Singapore to recover the stolen assets. The court deemed this temporary relief an effective mechanism to safeguard assets in cross-border bankruptcy cases and facilitate judicial cooperation between U.S. and foreign courts. Previously, the U.S. Department of Justice had requested Circle to freeze the involved addresses but later withdrew the seizure order due to the inability to identify the hackers. Additionally, reports indicate that a group of U.S. investors has filed a class-action lawsuit against Circle regarding the same batch of stolen USDC, with both parties agreeing to maintain the account freeze during the litigation process.
