[Chinese Tianjin Police: Collaborating with UK Law Enforcement on Qian Zhimin Cross-Border Fugitive Pursuit and Asset Recovery Case]
BlockBeats News, October 30 – The Hedong Branch of the Tianjin Public Security Bureau in China issued a notice today stating that the police are currently working with UK law enforcement agencies to carry out cross-border cooperation on fugitive pursuit and asset recovery, making every effort to recover losses for participants in the fundraising scheme. The police remind investors to express their demands lawfully and rationally, and to be cautious of unauthorized cross-border 'asset recovery agents' to avoid being deceived again.
Previously reported, on September 29, Qian Zhimin, the main perpetrator of a money laundering case involving 60,000 Bitcoins, pleaded guilty at Southwark Crown Court in London, admitting to crimes related to the illegal acquisition and possession of cryptocurrency. Between 2014 and 2017, she led a large-scale fraud operation in China, defrauding over 128,000 victims and storing the proceeds in Bitcoin assets. This case, involving cross-border money laundering and cryptocurrency asset recovery, is regarded as a landmark test of regulation and governance of cross-border financial crimes in the digital currency era. Qian Zhimin was accused of illegally raising approximately 43 billion RMB through Ponzi scheme-like 'investment and wealth management' products via Tianjin Lantian Gerui Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. between 2014 and 2017, affecting 130,000 victims.
