Minister Floyd Green updated on agriculture and fisheries preparedness as Tropical Storm Melissa approaches. The Ministry has activated emergency protocols and RADA officers are helping farmers and fishers take precautions. Farmers are advised to harvest crops, secure livestock feed and water, clear drains, and protect plants and chemicals. Greenhouse farmers should strip plastic coverings to reduce wind damage. Fishers are urged to come ashore and secure their boats and engines. The Ministry is also preparing a disaster recovery plan, with seeds, chemicals, and support from CARICOM, FAO, and among others to help farmers and fishers rebound quickly after the storm. Minister Green stressed: “Make final preparations now, protect your life, and the government will support your livelihoods after the storm.”(Andrew Holness)
