It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of Mr. Sing Chin, CD, Managing Director of Progressive Grocers of Jamaica Limited, a visionary entrepreneur, philanthropist, and dedicated Jamaican who devoted his life to building both business and community.
I met with Mr. Sing Chin just a few short months ago and was deeply impressed by his humility, vision, and commitment to Jamaica’s growth and development. His quiet strength and focus on nation-building were evident in every conversation.
Mr. Sing Chin was a true pioneer in Jamaica’s retail and distribution sector. Under his leadership, Progressive Grocers of Jamaica Limited became a cornerstone of the nation’s food supply chain, providing livelihoods for many and setting a high standard for innovation, efficiency, and corporate responsibility.
Beyond his business achievements, Mr. Sing Chin will be remembered for his generous spirit and his commitment to national service. During the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl last year, he worked tirelessly to assist with the relief efforts, ensuring that essential supplies reached those most affected. His compassion and readiness to serve embodied the best of the Jamaican spirit.
On behalf of the Government and people of Jamaica, I extend heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and the entire Progressive Grocers of Jamaica family. We mourn the loss of a remarkable Jamaican whose life’s work strengthened our nation and uplifted countless lives.
May his soul rest in peace.(Andrew Holness)
