[Ethereum Foundation Co-Executive Director Tomasz Stanczak: ERC-8004 and EIP-2 Are Key Cornerstones of Ethereum's AI Agent Economy] At the ETHShanghai 2025 main forum, ETHPanda co-founder Bruce Xu and Ethereum Foundation Co-Executive Director Tomasz Stanczak engaged in a fireside chat. Tomasz Stanczak stated that in the future economic ecosystem dominated by Ethereum, the system will become more permissionless. Everyone will be able to deploy AI agents, participate in the local economy, and make payments by building credibility and trust, significantly reducing reliance on traditional financial systems. Agents can provide users with a standardized way to connect to global infrastructure, facilitating project development, supporting schools and construction work, and improving global infrastructure through coordination. Compared to traditional banking or money transfer systems, this approach is more efficient and avoids the risks of centralized institutional control. He revealed that emerging standards such as ERC-8004 and EIP-2 have already attracted the attention of some major institutions. Among them, ERC-8004 is the agent functionality standard, covering identity, reputation, and claim verification, and serves as the foundation for core agent functionalities. EIP-2 is the payment standard, defining how agents request payments from other agents. These standards are still in their early stages but represent significant opportunities to explore agent functionalities, reputation systems, and verification mechanisms, with potential for future expansion and optimization of applications. At the same time, payment reliability and integration with existing systems remain challenges. In the next one to two years, more infrastructure solutions will emerge, enabling institutions to easily deploy agents and connect payment systems, thereby significantly improving user experience. In terms of community support, the Ethereum Foundation is driving standard-setting through decentralized teams and connecting data, enterprises, and developer communities. The foundation also supports developers through summer schools and global initiatives, with a particular focus on AI and agent-related directions, helping founders, developers, scholars, and enterprises establish connections, conduct market promotion, and coordinate communities. Regarding the Chinese community, Tomasz Stanczak also noted that the West places great importance on the region's innovative potential, which represents a significant opportunity for global collaboration. He encouraged developers interested in AI and Ethereum to join community discussions and work together to advance technological development.
