[Ethereum Foundation Co-Executive Director: Three Major Challenges to Achieve Mass Adoption] At the ETHShanghai 2025 main forum, Ethereum Foundation Co-Executive Director Hsiao-Wei Wang delivered a keynote speech exploring the path to achieving mass adoption for Ethereum. She stated that Ethereum's vision revolves around three core principles: enabling users to have full control over their assets, achieving global settlement capabilities, and integrating blockchain technology into everyday life. However, before achieving this goal, Ethereum must overcome three major challenges: scalability and high costs, the user experience gap, and trust issues. In terms of scalability, Ethereum is advancing through the coordinated development of L1 and L2, leveraging L2 Rollups to enhance transaction throughput and reduce costs. Key upgrades include Dencun (EIP-4844), Pectra (Q1 2025), and Fusaka (Q4 2025). For user experience, smart accounts are being introduced through account abstraction (ERC-4337, EIP-7701, EIP-7702), enabling features such as social recovery wallets, gas fee sponsorship, and batch transactions. She emphasized that Ethereum's ultimate goal is to become an omnipresent, transparent, and reliable infrastructure like the internet. The true realization of its value will come when people naturally rely on it.
