Telegram founder Pavel Durov: Running Telegram doesn’t make money, I live off Bitcoin Telegram founder Pavel Durov recently appeared on the Lex Fridman podcast. Durov recalled buying his first Bitcoin in 2013 when the price was at a cycle high of $700. He spent millions in one go and bought thousands of BTC. The following year (2014), BTC’s price plummeted to $200. People around him felt sorry for him, thinking he had invested in the wrong thing. However, he said, 'I have faith in Bitcoin, I won’t sell.' Pavel Durov pointed out that BTC is censorship-resistant, so no one can take your Bitcoin away. Durov also openly stated, 'Telegram actually loses money. My current living expenses are entirely supported by Bitcoin.' He admitted that renting luxury venues and flying private jets might make people think he relies on project funding, but it’s actually the returns from his early holdings. Pavel Durov believes BTC’s inflation is already coded in, and he is confident that one day in the future, BTC’s price will definitely reach $1 million.
